Chicago - The race to be the next mayor of Chicago took a turn into
the Mexican Independence Parade this weekend, as politicians
considering a run marched before as many as 300,000 people.
An army of volunteers was out for Congressman Luis Gutierrez, who said
he might get all the petition signatures he needs to get on the ballot
right at the parade.
In eyeing a run, he's got a lot of company.
"One parade doesn't make a campaign, and it doesn't make an election.
It could be a good beginning," Gutierrez said.
"I think it's easy to campaign, throw your name in the race. It's
difficult to govern this city. Anyone who doesn't realize this is
fooling themselves and should get out of this race," Ald. Bob Fioretti
(2nd) said.
