According to the New York daily, this is “one of the most expensive
townhouse sales ever in the city” for a building of this kind, in the
French neoclassical style and not very many stories high.
The townhouse, known as the Duke-Semans mansion and located at 1009
Fifth Avenue, was owned by the descendants of tobacco magnate Benjamin
Duke until 2006, when it was sold.
