The meaning of Art, By Shelley Esaak
I could tell you that art plays a large part in making our lives
infinitely rich. Imagine, just for a minute, a world without art! Art
stimulates different parts of our brain to make us laugh or incite us
to fight, with a whole range of emotions in between. Art gives us a
way to be creative and express ourselves. For some people, art is the
entire reason they get out of bed in the morning.
You could say "Art is something that is both functional and
(hopefully) aesthetically pleasing to our eyes. "Now, everything just
stated has elements of truth, but is largely based on opinion. Besides
them, here are the cold hard facts: Art is form and content. This
means: All art consists of these two things: Form means (1) the
elements of art, (2) the principles of design and (3) the actual
physical materials that the artist has used. "Content" is idea-based
and means (1) what the artist meant to portray (2) what the artist
actually did portray and (3) how we react, as individuals, to both the
intended and the actual messages. Additionally "content" includes ways
in which a work was influenced --by religion, or politics, or society
in general, or even the artist's use of hallucinogenic substances-- at
the time it was created. All these factors, together make up the
"content" side of Art.
a) What is art for the author?
For the author art can be seen in may different ways. it depends on
the outlook of every person, but above of all there is a fact to bear
in mind: art is composed by two parts: form and context.
b) What is the more "objective" definition of art (the actual hard
fact)?
The definition wich expresses the idea of that form and content are
the two essential part of art and each of them includes others more
simple parts. Specifically he mentioned three different elements.
IV. Composition (2 points)
What is "art" for you? Give your own definition and explain your ideas
in a short essay (about 80-100 words).
I think art is a very complex matter and at the same time the
definition of art is different for every person.
The article we have read is about expressing the idea of painting, but
there are other arts like poetry, music, etc; we can also distinguish
between different types of art: literature, music, etc. are arts of
time; architecture, painting, etc, arts of space, and the rules of
interpreting each group are very differents from each other.
Above of all art is the expression of a vision of life by an artist;
also the spectator, the reader or listener, can complete this process
of comunication (because art is comunication) given his own
interpretation, deppending on his cultural level or sensibility and
that will make it more or less rich.

Restaurant Yavatcha
15-17 Broadwick Street, Soho, London, W1FODL
A perhaps, somewhat, unlikely spot for a Michelin-Starred restaurant,
Yavatcha sits on the corner of one of London's oldest fruit and
vegetarian markets. Yavatcha is the second concept restaurant brought
to us by Alan Yav. Vollowing the traditional Cantonese lunchtime fare,
Yavatacha is now offering equally delightful "dim sum" all day long
from his Soho tea-house/French patisserie/Chinese restaurant. The
upper portion of the restaurant is given over to delightful cakes and
pastries served with over 150 types of tea. However, the magic happens
downstairs, in the modern and chic restaurant hall. The design sets an
ambient tone but the traditional layout gives the place a sociable and
friendly air. It's all hustle and bustle as a never-ending stream of
customers concentrated with eating succulent and mouth-watering parcel
of joy! "Dim sum" literally means "touch the heart" and the cuisine at
yavatcha achieves this goal. Guests are given 90 minutes seating time
so the idea is to stop by for a quick bite and get backc to Soho's
other distractions, refreshed and relaxed. Reservations are a good
idea at Yavatcha but if you go late in the afternoon you may be able
to get a walk-in.
1. Yavatcha is one of the restaurants that will soon appear in the
Michelin guide.
a) True
b) False. It's already in, because it has a star in that guide
2. Yavatcha is the only concept restaurant brought by Alan Yav
a) True
b) False. That is the second "concept restaurant", brought by Alan Yav
to London
3. The concept of Yavatcha is mixing traditional "dim sum" with
English traditional tea
a) True. It's offering beside the "dim sum" over 150 types of tea like
other Soho tea-houses.
4. Guests cannot be more than an hour and a half sitting at the table
for lunch or dinner
a) True. Because the owner considers is time enough to have a rest and
go back to have other distractions
b) False
